What is Ozempic and why is it trending for weight loss?

Ozempic was originally a prescription diabetic medication

Ozempic was originally engineered over a decade ago as a prescription diabetic medication, so its more recent use as weight loss drugs is off-brand.

Ozempic's surprise weight loss effects

Doctors soon noticed that as well as improving blood sugar levels, diabetic patients also reported weight loss. Research has since shown that diabetics, as well as obese people lack satiety-signalling GLP-1.

How Ozempic works

Semaglutide works as a receptor in the intestine of diabetics to help the pancreas release the right amount of insulin. In the obese and overweight, it works to suppress appetite.

Semaglutide was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for weight management in 2021.

Celebrities on weight loss drugs like Ozempic

With celebrities like Kim and Khloe Kardashian, Mindy Kaling, Chelsea Handler, and Elon Musk recently losing large amounts of weight suspiciously quickly, speculation has been rife that weight loss drugs like Ozempic have been the cause.

But few celebs have been honest about their use of semaglutide in the way that Elon Musk and Chelsea Handler have.

In fact, Chelsea Handler mentioned on a podcast recently "So my anti-aging doctor just hands it out to anybody...I didn’t even know I was on it!"

So what's the problem with Ozempic and other semaglutide weight loss drugs?

Ozempic includes disodium phosphate dihydrate and propylene glycol which are both known to disrupt the gut microbiome and lead to leaky gut - which research shows to be one of the leading causes of chronic inflammatory conditions like obesity, type 2 diabetes, alzheimers, cancers and more.

Also, as soon as you stop taking semaglutide, your usual appetite WILL return, and you would not have learned sustainable habits or tools for permanent weight loss without being

reliant on drugs, keeping you stuck on the pharmaceutical rollercoaster.

TikToker Remi Bader said this about her experience with Ozempic for weight loss:

"A few months later I went off it and got into bad binging...I saw a doctor and they were like, it's 100 percent because I went on Ozempic. It was making me think I wasn't hungry for so long, I lost some weight. I didn't wanna be obsessed with being on it long-term. I was like, I bet the second I get off I'm gonna get starving again. I did, and my binging got so much worse."
